Huayhuash Trek

Itinerary:

Duration: 4 1/2 hours (car), 4 hours (walking)

We headed Chiquian south-west of the city of Huaraz up to Pocpa this is where our hike of 3 hours Cuartelhuain where we set up camp begins.

From Cuartelhuain begin the ascent to the pass of 4,700m Cacananpunta then descend to the valley where our camp Janca will be Mitucocha side of the lagoon

This day began the trek ascending the passage of Carhuac 4,650m where we will have an excellent view of Siula and Yerupaja. then descend to the beautiful lagoon Carhuacocha here is the camp, against the background of the majestic mountains of Big Yerupaja, Yerupaja Chico and Jirishanca.

This day ascend to the butcher step (4,600m) from where you have great views of the mountains: Yerupajá (6,634m) the second highest mountain in the Peruvian Andes, the Siula (6,344m) impressive mountain made famous Joe Simpson after his dramatic escalation that led to the story in his book “Touching the Void”, the tragic accident lived. Then we descend Huayhuash camp.

Duration: 5-6 hours

This day the walk brings us to the southern end of the Cordillera Huayhuash, we ascend to step Huayhuash (4,700m) to reward with views of the mountain range and to the excellent Raura opposite side face view of the Trapezium. Down south past the edge of the lagoon Viconga, then enjoy the thermal baths.

Duration: 6 hours approx.

This day will be a long day, the goal is to cross the Cuyoc step (5,000m) highest point of the walk and from where you have splendid views of mountains Cuyoc, Puscanturpa, Trapeze, Siula, Yerupaja, Sarapo and jurao. South west can see the Cordillera de Raura. Crossing the Cuyoc step, we descend to the camp Huanacpatay.

Duration: 6 hours approx.

We descend along the valley to the village Guanacpatay Huayllapa, and continue to camp Huatiac

Duration: 6-7 hours approx.

Step climb to Punta Tapush (4800 m.), Where we will have a panoramic view of Mount Diablo Mudo (5350 m.) and continue to step Yaucha (4,800m) from where you have stunning views of snowcapped: Rondy, Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Yerupaja Chico, large Yerupaja, Rasac and Siula. Then we descend to the beautiful lagoon of Jahuacocha where we set up camp (4,100m) against the background of the beautiful lagoon of Jahuacocha.

Duration: 5-6 hours approx.

Optional walks around the Jahuacocha or Rasac lake (4600m)  

Duration: 4 hours (walking), 4 hours (car)

This is the last day of walking, we descend the Huayllan gorge, passing between the ichu and quenuales arrived at Pampa Llamac, where you have the latest views of snowcapped peaks (Rondoy, Jirishanca, Yerupaja), and we said goodbye to the Cordillera huayhuash, and then continue down to the village of Llamac, where we will take the bus back to the city of Huaraz.
