Located in the Cordillera Blanca, strategically in the middle of colossal mountains of five and six thousand meters. From its summit you can see a spectacular panoramic view and after Pisco perhaps the “Yana” is the most frequented mountain in this area. Located almost in front of the snowy Pisco, its entrance is through Km 42 of the road that leads to the Portachuelo pass.
Itinerary:
Transport: 3.5 hours approx.
Walk: 4 hours approx.
From Huaraz with the vehicle we move to Cebollapampa for about 3 hours approx. During the trip we will be able to appreciate two beautiful lagoons in the Llanganuco valley called Chinancocha and Orconcocha. Then we will continue until we reach Km 42; here we will begin our walk making a crossing to the Morrena field. Here we set up camp, and in the afternoon we enjoy a cozy sunset, dinner and overnight.
Mountain activity: 6 to 8 hours approx.
Transportation: 3.5 hours approx.
Summit day. We get up at approximately 2:30am to have a light breakfast and we will leave to ascend the mountain at approximately 3:00am. First we will traverse the moraine until we reach the glacier; here we will equip ourselves with all the technical elements.
We will climb about 180 meters of wall (50 – 60° inclination) until we reach the top. Where we will have a spectacular view of the snowy mountains Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Huandoy and Chacraraju. Then we will begin to descend along a ridge with views of Chacraraju to the moraine.
At the moraine we will unequip and pack everything and then walk to km 42 where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz.
